Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK’s leading research-focused universities and a member of the Russell Group with an outstanding reputation in the humanities and social sciences. The English Department was ranked second in the last national Research Assessment Exercise.
The Department wishes to appoint a one-year fixed-term Lecturer in Middle Eastern Literatures in English, to continue our teaching and research in this area pioneered by Professor Jacqueline Rose. Candidates should be qualified to teach the history and literature of Palestine-Israel in translation, and ideally possess expertise in Arabic and/or Hebrew. We would also expect the successful candidate to contribute to some other courses as well, in the modern, contemporary and postcolonial areas of our curriculum, as appropriate. The successful candidate will be expected to make an important contribution to high-quality research in the area, and to take advantage of the potential for collaboration with other Schools and Departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The post is full time for a period of 12 months, starting from 1 September 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be on the Academic and Education Grade 5 scale at £38,579 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
