We are looking to appoint a Lecturer in South-Asian Literature in English [The deadline for applications has now passed].
Queen Mary, University of London is one of the UK’s leading research-focused universities and a member of the Russell Group with an outstanding reputation in the humanities and social sciences. The English Department was ranked second in the last national Research Assessment Exercise.
The English Department seeks to appoint a Lecturer in South-Asian Literature in English. QMUL English has an outstanding reputation for research and teaching in Postcolonial Literatures, which has been central to our research and teaching strategy since the early 1990s. South-Asian Literature studies is an expanding field in which we need dedicated research and teaching, not least because of our location in the East End, a major recruiting area for QMUL, with its large migrant population from the subcontinent. The successful candidate will be expected to make an important contribution to high-quality research in the area, to devise new courses at undergraduate and MA level, to take advantage of the potential for collaboration with other Schools and Departments, and to contribute to the general provision of English teaching in the Department.
The post is full time starting from 1 September 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be on the Academic and Education Grade 5 scale at £38,579 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
