CEMMN.net, a new interdisciplinary research centre exploring Early Modern Mapping, News, and Networks launches.
30 September 2013
The School of English and Drama has recently launched CEMMN.net: The Centre for Early Modern Mapping, News, and Networks. The Centre is a collaboration by staff in English, History, and Geography at Queen Mary, and is affiliated with a number of other institutions and archives. The co-directors of CEMMN.net are Dr Ruth Ahnert and Professor Joad Raymond.
Speaking about the Centre's launch, Ruth Ahnert said:
We are delighted to launch the Centre for early Modern Mapping, News and Networks (CEMMN.net), an exciting new research centre which draws on the expertise of a range of academics at Queen Mary and beyond. Based around several existing collaborative projects, we are hopeful that the centre will develop into an important hub for research on cartography, news communication, and network theory. Together, this work aims to change the way we understand how knowledge was mapped and transmitted in the premodern world, and to develop new ways of representing that transfer in the digital age."
