Postgraduate Research Open Evening

Venue: The Octagon and the Film and Drama Studio, ArtsTwo

The evening is divided into two parts: one general session about pursuing PhD research at Queen Mary, and one session specifically about studying in the School of English and Drama. You do not have to attend both sessions, and you are welcome to arrive midway through the evening. If you are intending to come, please register through Eventbrite.

Schedule

16:00-16:30 - Registration and Drinks Reception (The Octagon)

Registration will take place from 16-16:30 in the Octagon in the Queens' Building (building 19 on the Campus Map). 

16:30-17:15 - Postgraduate Research at Queen Mary (The Octagon)

Guest speakers will discuss various aspects of postgraduate life at Queen Mary. Speakers will include QMUL's Principal, and topics covered will include finance, careers, and the Doctoral College.

17:30-18:30 - PhD Study in the School of English and Drama (Film and Drama Studio, ArtsTwo Building)

The School session will take place in the Film and Drama Studio (FADS) in the ArtsTwo Building (building 35 on the Campus Map). There will be someone in the reception of ArtsTwo to register late comers and to direct you to FADS. 

This session will include:

  • A welcome from Professor Markman Ellis, the Head of School
  • Advice on proposal writing from our Directors of Graduate Studies: Professor Jerry Brotton (English) and Dr Martin Welton (Drama)
  • A roundtable on postgraduate study and a Q&A featuring staff and current PhD students

There will be a Drinks Reception from 18:30 giving you the chance to network with students and academics from the School.
