After Your Degree

Production Management Assistant, BBC Factual

PhD Researcher, Yale University

Publishing, Oxford

Our students embark on a vast range of careers.

Some work in business, government and public policy, charity, non-governmental and arts organisations. Publishing, print journalism, and the broadcast media are all popular choices for English students who want to use their communication skills. Others use their ability to write critically and persuasively to go into public relations, marketing, and advertising. In addition, many of our graduates embark upon professional careers in finance, management, law, and teaching; whilst every year the Department sees a number of students progress to take higher degrees, both at Queen Mary and elsewhere.

The national 2014 destination survey confirmed that 92% of our graduates were in employment or study six months after graduation with 71% of this group already working or studying at graduate level. Queen Mary graduates have an especially strong earning power.

Recent graduate destinations have included:

  • Junior Producer for ITN
  • PR Assistant at Proud Gallery
  • Production Management Assistant for the BBC
  • MPhil and PhD at Cambridge
  • Editorial Assistant at Dazed & Confused Magazine
  • Marketing Coordinator for News Quest Ltd
  • Programme Compiler at Channel 4
  • Independent Musician
